A long term care insurance plan helps pay for care if an insured person becomes functionally dependent, due to a loss of two or more Activities of Daily Living or a cognitive impairment.

Long term care insurance is primarily designed for pre-retirees and active retirees who want to ensure they won't be a burden on their families.

Long term care insurance provides a 'pool' of long term care funds, which are drawn down during a claim as monthly Care Benefits are paid. The monthly Care Benefit doesn't depend on the actual cost of care, and no reporting of expenses is required.
